DARPA-Origin Technology

Binary Ionization Technology was originally developed under a DARPA grant with the U.S. Department of Defense. The same science that addressed biological hazards in defense settings now protects schools, healthcare facilities, and commercial buildings across Michigan and Illinois.

How SteraMist Works

SteraMist uses Binary Ionization Technology (BIT) to convert a low-concentration hydrogen peroxide solution into an ionized mist using a cold plasma arc. That arc transforms the hydrogen peroxide into hydroxyl radicals, one of the most powerful and shortest-lived oxidizing agents in nature.

Unlike bleach or traditional disinfectants, hydroxyl radicals attack pathogens at the molecular level by stripping electrons from cell membranes, proteins, and DNA. The reaction is instantaneous and the byproducts are simply water vapor and oxygen. Nothing is left on surfaces. Nothing needs to be wiped.

The Delivery Advantage

SteraMist fogging fills a room like a gas, reaching the surfaces, corners, vents, and airspace that conventional cleaning physically cannot access. This makes it uniquely suited to large-area decontamination, contamination events, and biological response situations where contact time with a cloth is not a viable option.

Cold Plasma Arc

A plasma arc converts ionized hydrogen peroxide into hydroxyl radicals on contact. The same mechanism DARPA developed for defense-level biological threats.

🧬

Hydroxyl Radical Action

Hydroxyl radicals (OH) break down pathogens at the molecular level, one of the most powerful oxidizing agents in nature. Instantaneous. No waiting period.

💧

No Residue, No Wiping

Byproducts are water vapor and oxygen. Nothing is deposited on surfaces, equipment, or fabrics. The space is ready to re-enter when the fog clears.

The Full Environment System

For large-scale contamination events, CERI deploys the SteraMist Environment System, a professional rig with multiple applicator wands running simultaneously. It can treat an entire facility in a fraction of the time of traditional methods.

Professional-Grade. Rapid Deployment.

Multiple Wands. Complete Area Coverage.

CERI technicians bring the full rig to contamination events, post-remediation follow-ups, and infectious disease response situations where complete area coverage is required. The system treats surfaces, corners, vents, and airspace that manual cleaning cannot reach in a single application.

No separate surface and air protocols. One deployment handles both.

What SteraMist Eliminates

Viruses and Pathogens

Validated against a broad spectrum of bacteria, viruses, and spores including healthcare-associated pathogens and emerging infectious threats.

Mold and Fungal Spores

Penetrates areas where mold remediation has occurred to decontaminate residual spores in hard-to-reach spaces. Ideal as a post-remediation follow-up.

Biological Contaminants

Used for biohazard remediation, infectious disease response, and contamination events requiring immediate large-area treatment.

Indoor Air and Surface Burden

Treats both airborne and surface contamination in a single application, without separate protocols for each environment.
